Глазычев Вячеслав Леонидович

Президент Института развития территорий, профессор кафедры теории и истории Московского архитектурного института (Государственной академии), Генеральный директор издательства "Европа", член Общественной палаты РФ (возглавляет комиссию по региональному развитию); родился 26 февраля 1940 г. в Москве, в 1963 г. окончил Московский архитектурный институт, доктор искусствоведения; автор дюжины книг и свыше четырехсот статей по теории и истории проектной культуры, проблемам урбанизации и развития городов; активно занимался общественной деятельностью, В конце 80-х годов стал одним из основателей общества "Мемориал", выступал как критик и публицист; умер 6 июня 2012 г.

Vyacheslav L. Glazychev

Born 1940 in Moscow.

Graduated from the English language High-school in Moscow.

Graduated from the Moscow Architectural University in 1963.

Worked as an Architect, a Consultant Designer, a Research Fellow at various institutions, writing to a number of magazines.

Since 1964 lectured at the Experimental Studio of Environmental Design, Moscow.Ph.D. in Sociology in 1969 for a book on Social Functions of Design.

1970 to 1983 - Head, History & Theory Department, Urban Planning Institute. Head, Theory department at the Decorative Arts Magazine. 1984 - 1987. Head, Urban Environment Department, Cultural Research Institute, organizing experimental research and Public Participation programs in towns around Russia. Those were the first Public Participation projects conceived and fulfilled in the Soviet Union in anticipation and for the enforcement of Democratization process.

1986 - elected Vice President, Union of Architects, SU, responsible for International programmes and Legal initiatives of the Union. Initiated public discussions on legal measures to ensure human rights at the municipal level, organized a multiprofessional working-group to foster a draft Law on local self-government. Chairman. The Memorial Society organizing Committee.

1989-1990 - Managing Secretary. The Cultural Initiative (George Soros) Foundation in Russia.

Since 1991. Professor. Moscow Architectural University.D.Arts Habilitation..

1991-1999. President. Academy of the Urban Environment, Moscow. Research in Participation technique supported by the TACIS Democracy Programme.

Since 2005. Director General. EUROPA Publishing House.

Since 2007. Director General. Territorial Development Institute.

Since 2005. Head. Commission on Regional development problems. The Russian Federal Public Chamber.

Published some 400 articles and 12 books. Translated and published books by Antonio Averlino (Filarete), Kevin Lynch, Jane Jackobs, Christopher Day, Roberta Gratz.

Widely traveling. Living with family in Moscow.
